Up, then down, then up....

Yesterday was kind of a rollercoaster day.

First our offer was accepted with no counter offer. I sort of expected this, with one exception. I only worried about the transfer fees on the country club membership. We asked for the seller to pay them, and I wasn't sure she would. However, she is! Awesome. The same exact floorplan sold for a significant amount more ten days ago in the same neighborhood. Why? This one needs to be painted, have the carpet (which is new) restretched, and have the wood floors polished. All things that make it not show well. All things that are simple, simple, simple and Kenny and I know to look past. The other house looked amazing. So we are getting a great deal. And our offer was accepted as is.

And then, I got laid off. After years with the same company, with no warning, I was laid off. I answered the phone while I sat in a doctor's appointment with Emmi. I mentioned I was in a doctor's appointment. And then, with Emmi's doctor listening in, I was laid off after being reassured that my job was not in jeopardy.

Kenny and I spent the rest of the day determining whether or not we could move. Should downsize? Should we stay here? Should we just move anyway? And then after much debate, we decided that since Kenny actually makes the bulk of our income, we will be okay. There will need to be some changes. But Kenny doesn't want one of those changes to be where the girls grow up. Nothing that drastic needs to happen. (Although, panicking me still does not believe) The changes need to be how often we go on vacation, and whether or not our kids get flat screen tvs and cell phones for Christmas. Perhaps their clothes will be more from Target than crewcuts. Hey, I love both. But I didn't make enough money to significantly impact our living situation.

So last night we made our decision. And I better get packing! Allison, here we come!

Congrats on the move! I hope it goes seamless!

Sorry to hear about your job. I was laid off in July after 13 years at the company, but the truth is I'm much happier now even thought I feel pretty broke - I miss my paycheck!

How is Emmi? I'm hoping her re-implantation went well and she is on-line again.

We just had an audio appt yesterday. I walked in told him her low frequencies needed to be kicked up and her highs were okay. He looked at me like I was insane for figuring that out simply by what she was hearing and what words she was distinguishing... dude, for real, I could do your job by now (there's an idea!). Sure enough, her highs were fine, her lows were too low. However, that is kind of odd. Especially given that she previously had residual hearing in the left ear in the low freq. She is already discriminating with just the left side. She picked up highs down to 30db. Not bad for two weeks out! They reworked her MAP, and she is hearing A LOT more today. He is just concerned with that change in low freq. We are watching it...

Dude, that sucks about losing your job but I'm glad things are still going to work out.
Congrats on the new home and I'm really glad to hear that Emmi is doing well after her surgery.

What really sucks is we were this close to me quiting anyway. By the start of season (March/Aprilish) Kenny and I were thinking we would have another crew up and running. Which means, that I could have quit working by the end of next summer. Seriously in less than a year, we would have been just fine. Really, we are probably fine now. But the timing sucks. We just paid for a wedding, we are buying a house (which is not affected, but I certainly won't be getting all that new furniture I thought I was getting!).

Well...now there has been another turn of events. We have to at least have a contract on our current house before we close on the new house (which Kenny seems to think is no problem! I should probably listen to him, considering he does have some experience here....). Funny, cause we weren't even listing it yet. We did get it listed last night, and I have rushed around like crazy to get it in showing shape. But this could seriously change things! Our closing date is set for Oct 13 as of now. We hope to actually move over the girls' Christmas break, though.

I am just glad the house will have room for my weekend visits. You know, I am not happy about the distance. It feels like a planet away. :(
